Coconut Cake Minis With Blackberries And White Chocolate

19|03|2016

Berries are fabulous with coconut flavored desserts and so is white chocolate! I've been wanting to make a blackberry based cake for a long time but since I only had a small punnet of them at home, I decided to make mini cakes instead of a large one.  Individually portioned desserts have their own … Read More

Pickled Radish And Grapefruit Salad

15|03|2016

Pickling is a great way of adding flavor to vegetables whilst increasing their shelf life. Among all the pickled vegetables I've tasted, pickled radish is my favorite. When pink baby radishes start appearing at the farmer's markets, it'a sign that Spring is round the corner. And that is when salads … Read More

Easy Chocolate Cake With Raspberries

9|03|2016

I think it's important for everyone to have a great, reliable and easy chocolate cake recipe in their kitty that they can pull out when the situation calls for it. There are always birthdays and special days when you just want to skip the bakery and bake your loved ones a homemade cake. Or maybe a … Read More

Banana, Peanut Butter And Oat Smoothie

5|03|2016

If there was one thing on my cooking bucket list that I most definitely wanted to tick off in 2016, it was to try out oats in a smoothie. I've been fascinated all the while with the idea of a on-the-go drinkable breakfast and what better than chilled, nutritious and filling glasses of oat smoothie … Read More

Beetroot And Feta Fritters

1|03|2016

Healthy, quick and easy fritters made with roasted beetroot and feta cheese, Perfect for breakfast, lunchbox or a nutritious snack. This recipe is a regular in our house. The basic fritter gets made, remade, revamped in multiple ways by every single member of the house. In fact last year, the boys (then 5 years old) had to do a little cooking demonstration at school and guess which recipe they chose? It is that easy and versatile. And healthy and quick and portable and really delicious. The only thing it is not? It is not sweet. It is s a savory recipe so I guess it was just awaiting it's turn quietly behind all those sweet recipes that make it to the blog. The great thing about the recipe is that you can use any vegetable of your choice. I've made it with mashed peas, shredded carrots, corn, tomatoes, kale, you name it! It is no secret that I LOVE beetroot. I like the way it complements the saltiness in feta and it just happens to be an amazing pairing whether it's in a tart, salad or fritter.  And of course, the colour! Naturally vibrant and so pretty. These fritters make a healthy snack and a great lunchbox treat. They also make pretty canapes with a cream cheese … Read More

Floral Cupcakes With Buttercream + Blog Birthday

24|02|2016

It was Sugar et al's birthday this week and my blog turned 3. Such amazing 3 years and so much to look back and feel proud about. Sometimes, I feel I am not even the same person anymore. I have evolved in more than one way along with my blog. It's like I was on a path to self-discovery all this while. I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for sharing this journey with me.  For stopping by, listening to me and putting a big smile on my face.   This space is not only special to me because I get to do all my favourite things here but also because the journey is synonymous with my personal journey in a totally new country. I started the blog weeks after I came to live in Australia. It's funny now when I look at my prop cupboards and all the things I managed to own in 3 years. Can you believe it? I came with a single baking pan and a few muffin liners. Much like all my friends in blog world, I worked really hard to improve and grow. In the process, I've grown more critical of my own work and need to constantly remind myself to take it easy. Putting a blog post together involves many different activities. From researching to testing out recipes, styling, … Read More

No Churn Ferrero Rocher and Raspberry Ice Cream

19|02|2016

Ferrero Rocher Ice cream that is made without an ice cream machine (no churn) with chopped ferrero rocher chocolatess and a raspberry swirl to make an easy, simple frozen treat.  No churn ice creams have been all over the Internet in recent times. While they yield mostly similar results which is a delightful sweet frozen treat, the process used and ingredients vary from one another. There is the hugely popular frozen fruit and sugar instant ice cream, the whipped egg white version, the semifreddos, and this one with condensed milk and super simple to make. While some argue that this is not real ice cream, I would say that 'the proof of the pudding is in the eating thereof'! What you enjoy eating while making at the convenience of your own home and is a great substitute to store bought food is always a great option in my books. I take no credit for this recipe. The flavour additions are mine but the basic recipe has been made over and over again by many. It's a tried and tested ice cream using condensed milk and cream. Condensed milk gives the ice cream it's smooth silky texture whilst preventing it from becoming grainy. And of course, there is no end to the add-in options … Read More

Roasted Red Pepper And Strawberry Soup

16|02|2016

The weather in Sydney has little to do with soup at the moment. It certainly has a lot to do with strawberries. They are in abundance and I thought it was time I get a little creative with them. I have to admit, I am a bit tired of eating them raw or with breakfast, dessert and drinks. I've made enough frozen treats. Cold soups have never been my thing. So why not savory..a warm strawberry soup, I told myself! I had a jar of roasted red peppers at home and the combo paired well in my mind. Something new! Something delicious!  And you really can't go too wrong with them. Taste wise, this is similar to a tomato soup which is acidic and sweet at the same time. There are bags of flavour in this soup that I did not want to dilute by adding cream or milk. If you like  a creamy soup, by all means go ahead and add coconut milk or fresh cream. A hint of balsamic vinegar gives it depth and honey completes the balance. What stands out is that you can taste or smell or feel the presence of the strawberries but they are not overpowering at all. Finally, it's a delicious soup, looks dainty but impressive enough to hold your guests attention and curiosity. Notes: I used store bought … Read More
